Galerie im Künstlerhaus, Bremen (1993)

At the beginning I pour water from a bucket over the floor in front of the cupboard.
I take the bankie out of the cupboard and put it down up front. Then I fetch the cloth from the cupboard. Bring it to the front, lay it down, lay myself down on the cloth, pull the cloth towards me and over myself until, lying wet on my face, it begins to suffocate me. I then throw it off, go to the cupboard, lock it and go away.
The cloth and the bankie remain where they are for the rest of the exhibition.
On the walls are 14 postcards of Table Mountain photographed from the beach between Woodstock and Blauberg. In the cupboard on the right is a taperecorder which plays non-stop, very softly, “Daar komm die Alibama”.
9 bags of grill-charcoal lean up against the wall opposite.
